Game Recap: Rampage beat Coast 5-4

Jordan McTaggart scored the PHL’s first hat-trick as the Brisbane Rampage won another nail biting contest 5-4 over the Coast.

Nick Novysedlak stopped 45 pucks for Brisbane in another epic goaltending performance.

That wasn’t the only hat-trick on the night, however. The Coast’s Mike Tish scored three goals of his own.

Brisbane have been waiting for years for a chance back in the national hockey stage. Now they’re sitting with a perfect 2-0 start after sweeping a weekend of road games vs the Coast this weekend.

It was another tight one. The Rampage won their second one goal game winning this one 5-4.

Coming off a thrilling 7-6 Brisbane Rampage victory on Saturday afternoon, Sunday’s affair started off a lot more tame.

The Rampage scored an early shorthanded goal to get on the board. Anthony Barnes had the mark on an assist from Harley Anderson.

One of Brisbane’s two Ontario imports, Jordan McTaggart, added the team’s second goal of the game not long after. It was his third of the season.

Nick Novysedlak was solid in net again for the Rampage. He turned away all pucks he faced in the first half of the game. In fact, he stopped the first 24 he faced.

Shot 25, however, was a different story.

Finally Alistair Rye broke a string of Brisbane momentum by firing a shot through the five hole off a nice set up from the Coast winger to make it a 2-1 game.

But on the first shift after the Coast scored, Jordan McTaggart added his second goal of the game on a 2-on-1, assisted from Harley Anderson.

Josh Anderson scored his first of the season for Rampage with two minutes to go in the first.

Mike Tish finished off a frantic end to the second period for the Coast. He scored in the dying seconds of the period to make it a 4-2 game after the second period.

Tish got his second goal five minutes into the third to bring the Coast within one.

The one goal game was short lived. Jordan McTaggart got his hat-trick goal just twenty seconds later to make it 5-3.

Two minutes following, Tish got his hat-trick. Two PHL hatties in a two minute span!

From there the goalies shut the door.

In the end, Nick Novysedlak made 45 saves for the Rampage. Tom Munro stopped 36 pucks for the Coast.

The Rampage improve to 2-0 and will face the 2-0 Melbourne Ducks in Brisbane next weekend.

The 0-2 Coast head to Adelaide to play the 0-2 Avalanche.
