Game Recap: Anderson sustains season-ending injury in loss to Ducks
Alternate Captain Josh Anderson sustained a suspected fractured leg in a 7-2 loss to the Ducks on the final regular season road trip to Melbourne on Saturday night.
The night did not start well with a power outage at IceHQ and surrounding areas due to windy conditions followed by a flat tyre on the team bus on the way to the rink. The injury to Anderson would come later on in the night.
The game began with a Rampage team missing several players due to sickness, injury or unavailability for the Melbourne trip but got off to a quick start in the first period.
Ryan Ruddle kicked off scoring immediately for the Ducks just a few minutes into the game to make it a 1-0.
Owen Sobchak got the Rampage on the scoreboard after picking up a rebound shot by Jon Bale and banking a shot off Ducks goalie Dayne Davis’ back to tie the game 1-1.
The league’s leading points scorer was not done there. Sobchak would pickup his 15th goal of the season a few minutes later after Nick Jones shot from the point that spat out to the right of the Ducks goalie leaving a wide open net for an easy goal to give the Rampage a 2-1 advantage before Ducks’ Hayden Dawes equalised the score to close out the period 2-2.
The second period would see a host of penalties against the Rampage including matching fighting majors to the Ducks’ Ryan Bennett and Rampage’s Jakub Terc who dropped the gloves at 12.14 on the clock.
More minor penalties had the Rampage in the box for an additional 12 out of the 20 minutes in the period allowing the Ducks to add three more to Dawes, Lindal and Dawes again to make it 5-2 at the break.
The third period would play out the same way with more Rampage penalties and more Ducks scoring with Ruddle and Dawes picking up goals.
Harley Anderson would add another goal to the scoreboard with his 10th goal of the season with 8.32 left in the period with a goal off his own rebound to make it 7-3.
A scary moment in the game with just three minutes left in the game when Josh Anderson took a hit into the boards next to the penalty box while taking the puck up the ice that resulted in a suspected fractured leg before leaving the game in distress. A devastating blow to the Rampage.
The game would see Nick Novyseldlak face another tough night in goal with 49 shots on him over 2 1/2 periods before assistant coach and backup goalie Milan Novysedlak took over facing 13 shots in just 12 minutes of action for a combined 62 shots on goal for the game.
Brisbane Rampage play their final home games of 2022 this Friday and Saturday night at Iceworld Boondall and Iceworld Boondall.
